Eric Carle Museum
Leading up to the full scale project we made a 2’ model to work out construction and logistical details of such a large and heavy piece. Mo provided us with a paper model that we digitized into CAD in order to have sections laser cut. The ears bolted on to facilitate transport and the finished piece weighed more than 1500 pounds. The install was scheduled as a public event to coincide with a book signing by Mo inside the museum.
We provided 3 hours of entertainment for spectators and families to watch as the tow truck transporting the piece quickly got stuck in mud on its drive over the museum lawn to the install sight. The Salmon Studios team mobilized quickly and with help from the museum staff were able to carefully maneuver the Red Elephant to its installation sight on the museum’s back courtyard.
